AUBURN, Alabama — The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is hosting a Peach Crop Insurance meeting with the USDA Risk Management Agency, Thursday, March 2. The meeting is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Alabama Green Industry Training Center at 5521 Cahaba Valley Rd, Birmingham, Alabama.
Centered in Chilton County, the peach industry is an important part of Alabama’s economy. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Alabama also produced over 5,000 tons of peaches in 2015, valued at more than $6 million.
Gary Gray, a regional Extension commercial horticulture agent, says risk management specialists will discuss peach crop insurance and gather information from producers on possible updates to the program.
A portion of the program includes producers responding to surveys on what kinds of peaches they grow.
